The sound of the Concha on La Noche de San Juan
Since 2009 Ricardo González from Icod de los Vinos has cultivated the old tradition of the shell horn. Every year on the night of San Juan, the muffled sound of the concha horn can be heard in the Barranco Mazapé in San Juan de la Rambla. The pilgrims walk together carrying only torches and horns to the church of San Juan. There a procession with white bands takes place in expectation of the concha blowers. Each band represents a new citizen born in the village since last year. The San Juan celebration ends at Los Roques or La Manguita beach.

17.06.2018 - The concha horn was formerly used on various occasions. Each year, therefore, a different form of use is included on the announcement posters.  This year it is the memory of the Misas de Luz.  At Christmas time at 5am, the concha was blown to awaken the inhabitants so that they knew that it was time to go to church.
