Alert to the danger of forest fires
Due to the hot temperatures during the recent calima, especially in the province of Gran Canaria, the Canarian government has warned of forest fires and as a precaution issued a ban on igniting any kind of fire or using equipment that generates sparks near forests. Temperatures of over 34 degrees Celsius were reached in Gran Canaria. The risk of forest fires is particularly high at medium altitudes. Both in Tenerife and Gran Canaria, light brush fires were extinguished just in time on Monday.

11.07.2018 - Moderate winds from the north-east, combined with violent gusts on the south-eastern and north-western coasts, can further increase the risk.  In the western province, temperatures were not quite as high.  The peak temperature in La Palma reached 29 degrees, in Tenerife and El Hierro 28 degrees and in La Gomera 27 degrees.  Precautions are being taken on all islands and forest patrols are being intensified by the Brifor task force.
