Church thieves caught
The National Police have arrested three Spanish men aged 20, 24 and 41 years, all with previous convictions, for alleged church theft. Two further possible accomplices are still wanted. They are accused of six burglaries in churches in La Laguna and Santa Cruz and one burglary in San Miguel de Abona. One burglary took place in the church at Punta de Hidalgo near La Laguna, while the priest was staying overnight in the church. He called the police who found a broken window when they arrived. A laptop and a silver medal of the Brotherhood were missing.

26.09.2018 - The other five burglaries took place in churches in the AnagaMountains: at Lomo de la Bodegas, Chamorga, Igueste de San Andrés, Taganana and Casa de las Cumbres. The alleged perpetrators always used the same modus operandi, disguised as tourists, they visited the church and discovered the circumstances and possible valuables. Then they broke in at night by forcibly opening doors or windows. Some valuables were recovered during the arrests and returned to their rightful owners.
