Huge wave crests cause damage in Tenerife
At the weekend, an orange alert was in place with a warning that waves could be up to six metres high.. Huge waves did roll towards the coast and they caused enormous damage. Fortunately, no one was injured, a miracle when you consider that in Mesa del Mar 67 apartments in the Mar y Sol building had to be evacuated. The waves had swept along the balcony railing on the first two floors and caused other damage too. In Garachico, the coastal road was closed to traffic as it had turned into a torrential river. The Castillo beside the natural swimming pools lay alone like an island. On Saturday evening at 10pm, 24 people were evacuated by firefighters from a building in Calle Esteban Pons, after the waves reached the elevator.

19.11.2018 - Only a few hours later, at 2am, they were deployed again. In Calle Tomé Cano, waves had destroyed a balcony on the third floor. Some of the 39 people who were evacuated were accommodated by family members while the other stayed at the gymnasium.

In Adeje, in the south of Tenerife, the waves penetrated the restaurant of a hotel in Calle La Lava, where several guests were having dinner.  Fortunately, nobody was injured there either.  Two cars, one in Bajamar and another in Puerto de la Cruz were washed into the sea by the waves.
