Arrested for illegal fishing with explosives
Guardia Civil officers recently arrested two men from Garafía in La Palma who are men accused of possessing illegal explosives and of violating flora and fauna. The two suspects were traced following an accident that occurred in mid-October. During the construction of a an explosive kit that they used for fishing, one of the parts exploded and injured one of the men so badly in the hand that he had to be treated in the emergency room. The police then began an investigation and found that the men were fishing in this way at the time of the accident.

20.11.2018 - According to Article 336, it is strictly forbidden to use poison or explosives for fishing or hunting. Violations will be considered a criminal offence and punishable by four months to two years imprisonment or fines over eight to 24 months.  In addition, a ban on hunting or fishing is imposed for three years.  If the damage caused is classified as serious, the penalty is in any case in the upper range.
