Taxi driver robbed
Three people, two men and one woman from Santa Cruz, aged 18, 21 and 22 years respectively, of whom the two oldest have a previous criminal record, have been arrested by the National Police on suspicion of robbing a taxi driver. A 25-year-old man, also with a criminal record, is still under investigation. The four young people boarded the taxi at the southern airport and wanted to be driven to Santa Cruz. On the way, the taxi driver, who was concerned that his passengers would be able to pay him, threatened to take them back to the airport if they did not pay.
One of the passengers then pulled the handbrake, then they hit the man. One even got out, grabbed a stone and threw it at the driver, who suffered a laceration on his head that needed five stitches. They demanded that the taxi driver hand over the day's takings, but as this ride was the first of the day for this driver, he hadn't taken any money yet. The gang therefore took his mobile phone and the car keys and made off.
