Flu cases cause a collapse at the University Hospital
The university hospital HUC in La Laguna was on the verge of collapse last week. This was due to the wave of influenza, which is currently causing havoc. A total of 269 patients visited the emergency room on Monday, 250 on Tuesday and so the week continued under high pressure. In November the average was 230 patients per day. Due to a lack of specialist staff, some patients had to wait more than four hours before being treated and more than 40 patients had to stay in beds in the corridors.
