The night of the volcano on St. John's night
It is now 70 years since the San Juan volcano in La Palma erupted on the St. John's Night. This anniversary will be commemorated tomorrow in the cave Caños de Fuego in the district of Las Manchas. The commemoration of June 23 in 1949, when the earth burned, is organised by the local councils of El Paso and Los Llanos de Aridane. A video report with images of the eruption will be shown and those who witnessed the eruption live will have their say. Researchers and historians will also explain what happened and what the consequences of the eruption were. The event will begin at 8.30pm. Admission is free. However, due to a limited number of places, an invitation card must be collected in advance from the Caños de Fuego Visitor Centre.
