The sound of the conch horn
At San Juan de la Rambla in the north of Tenerife, the conch horn sounds on St. John's Night, la Noche de San Juan. . It was once used to convey important messages from everyday life, but today it is a tradition. Every year, the announcement poster makes a different reference to its former use. This year it represents the grape harvest. In the end, thanks were given for the rich harvest by blowing the conch horn. A similar tradition was established by the Mayas. In Tenerife, at Tierra del Trigo, a small village above Los Silos, a woman still blows the conch horn during the grape harvest.
