Two anonymous heroes didn't hesitate for a second last Sunday when they saw a woman floating in the water about 20 metres off the coast. The 48-year-old had been fishing near El Rincón and had fallen into the water from a height of six metres. She had a severe head wound that knocked her unconscious, almost drowning her. The two rescuers jumped into the water with a life preserver and headed towards the unconscious woman. They secured her with the help of the ring and made sure that the woman's airway was not in the water. The lifebelt was attached to a rock on the shore with a rope, so that more helpers on the shore were able to pull the injured woman and her rescuers ashore. The two rescuers were only slightly injured and were able to leave the water on their own. The woman was initially aided by Red Cross staff and a rapid helicopter evacuation to the University Hospital Doctor Negrín. But on Sunday night she succumbed to her severe injury. The platform Canarias, 1.500 Kilometros de Costa is searching for the unknown heroes.
