Acquittal for cannibis plantation owners
The Canary Islands Supreme Court has quashed the judgement of the Santa Cruz Court and acquitted the three owners of a cannabis plantation, Stephan Rudolf W., Arnaud R. and Fernando G.C.. The court in Santa Cruz had imposed a six-month prison sentence and a fine of €83,681. However, the Supreme Court found that the defendants' rights of defence had been violated. The plantation was officially registered as a club with its own production. Marijuana was grown there for the members. In the club guidelines, however, it was also noted that nobody could buy more than three grams per day. The club had up to 872 members. Since the club was officially registered and its activities as well as its statutes were known and there were neither objections from the Arona Council nor from the Canary Islands government, or any legality doubts, the judges cleared the three owners from the accusations.
