Traditions Day in Chirche
For 19 years, in the picturesque mountain village of Chirche in the borough of Guía de Isora, traditions have been held high and in honour. This weekend it will be time for the whole village to join in again. The celebration begins this evening at 9.30pm with a documentary film. On Saturday at 9pm in the Plaza de Chirche a traditional play will be performed and afterwards everyone can dance in the Casa de Lolita. On the main day, on Sunday, the village will wake up early. Amateur actors will recreate life as it used to be. There will be the teacher with her school class, the old healer with her household remedies and a procession and a wedding will be recreated. Throughout the day until around 2pm new scenes in traditional costumes will be performed. The Traditions Day ends with a procession with dancing at about 2pm.
Usually thousands of visitors come to the village on this day so the Guía de Isora Council has organised a bus shuttle which departs from 10am every half hour from the Guardia Civil headquarters to Chirche. The last bus back leaves Chirche at 4.30pm.
