Fireworks night in Alcalá
At midnight, not only the general Canarian bank holiday in honour of the patron saint of the Canaries, the Virgen de Candelaria, begins. Alcalá on the south west coast of Tenerife has now been celebrating its fireworks night for about a century. "It is an impressive spectacle of light, colour and sound. It is the most spectacular fireworks display in Tenerife and perhaps even in the Canary Islands", explained those responsible from the fireworks company Hermanos Toste from Los Realejos, who have been equipping the fireworks for about 80 years. The rockets are fired from four different points around the town. The most spectacular are those that rise from the sea. The fireworks start at midnight and last for about 25 minutes.
