Heat warning for the weekend
Due to the high temperatures which have been forecast for August 16 to 18 the Canarian Health Service (SCS) has activated an orange alert for high temperatures, due to the risks this poses to the health, from Friday and continuing over the weekend, in Gran Canaria, Tenerife and La Palma. It applies in particular to the boroughs of Mogán and Santa Lucía in Gran Canaria and Arona in Tenerife. Temperatures of up to 32 degrees Celsius and tropical nights of 24 degrees Celsius are expected.
A yellow alert on Friday and Saturday applies to Agüimes, La Aldea de San Nicolás, Artenara, Ingenio, Tejeda, Santa Brígida, San Bartolomé de Tirajana, Valsequillo and Vega de San Mateo in Gran Canaria as well as to Adeje, Arico, Candelaria, Fasnia, Granadilla de Abona, Güímar, Puerto de la Cruz, Los Realejos and San Miguel de Abona in Tenerife. On Saturday the boroughs of Agaete in Gran Canaria, Guía de Isora, La Orotava and Vilaflor in Tenerife as well as Santa Cruz de La Palma, Breña Alta, Breña Baja, Fuencaliente, Los Llanos de Aridane, Tazacorte and Villa de Mazo in La Palma will be added. The public are recommended to drink plenty of water, to avoid strenuous activities in the blazing sun and to eat light food.
