This fire is a monster!
That's how a firefighter on the front line described it yesterday on Canarian television. "It's violent, it's angry, it smokes, it throws out ashes and angry flames," he says. In fact, the flames in the Tamadaba National Park are more than 50 metres high, an impossible task for the firefighters. On Monday, they concentrated primarily on keeping the flames away from the towns and villages. More than 6,000 hectares of forest have already been burned, almost 9,000 people have been evacuated and the diameter of the fire area is already 60 kilometres.
Minister of Agriculture Luis Planas arrived from Spain. He promised more fire-fighting aircraft and from Tuesday the use of a drone to get a better overview. This is already the largest number of firefighters that have been deployed in the Canary Islands in recent years. It has priority to protect human lives and to keep the material damage as small as possible so the minister.
According to latest reports, in the early hours of this morning, the fire began to remit and lose power after three days of burning out of control.
