Listeria contaminated meat in Tenerife
The Spanish Ministry for Health informed the authorities in Tenerife that a small proportion of the meat produced in Seville and contaminated with the listeria bacteria was sold in small quantities outside Andalusia, which is the area which has reported the most cases.
For example, 1.4 kilograms of minced beef from the brand La Mechá were said to have been bought by a cafeteria in Adeje on July 10. The inspectors are currently checking whether the meat has already been sold or is still in the owner's possession. In this case the meat would be confiscated. There are currently no known cases of the illness in Tenerife. In Andalusia there have been 80 cases of poisoning and two miscarriages possibly caused by eating the contaminated meat.
