Barbecuers resist authority and attack an officer
Last week, Guardia Civil officers in Gran Canaria filed charges against a 44-year-old woman for resisting state authority and arrested her for attacking an officer. The incident occurred at San Mateo, near the forest.
The officers saw a cloud of smoke rising from the edge of the forest and checked whether it was a possible forest fire. They found three people who had lit a mobile barbecue for a picnic. They told the three that due to the high risk of forest fires, it was forbidden to start fires in the forest until September 30, even in the designated barbecue areas. In addition, they had not kept a safe distance from combustible vegetation and had nothing at hand to extinguish fires quickly in an emergency. Instead of apologising and extinguishing the barbecue, a woman attacked one of the officers. It was an irresponsible action, especially in view of the large forest fires that raged in Gran Canaria in August.
