Protecting prisoners

The arrest and detention of a man in Telde, Gran Canaria, on suspicion of the attempted abduction of at least one young girl made headlines all over the islands and beyond. The suspect is currently in prison on remand. Very soon after his detention he requested that he be held in isolation while in prison, presumably in the knowledge that prisoners accused or convicted of sexual crimes against children are often the target of attacks from other prisoners. Presumed innocent till guilty perhaps, but convicted felons can also apply for isolation in similar circumstances, and the state has a duty to protect those in prison regardless of the crimes committed. But what do you think? Should suspects and convicted criminals have a right to isolation from other prisoners if they so desire?

Cheo, Los Silos

No, I would not give them a special protection. Last week someone tried to abduct a girl here (thank God she managed to escape).  I would not show any mercy for these guys.
