Animal cruelty

Despite increased legal measures to deal with pet abandonment or cruelty to animals, the summer months continue to see too many animals left to their luck, or worse.

Fed up with the problems caused by loose animals, some councils are implementing strict bye-laws to discourage people from dumping their pets on the streets. However those who are only abandoned would seem to be the lucky ones. The case of the Alsatian, Vela, so badly mistreated supposedly by her owner, incited thousands of you to join your names to a petition to force a reopening of the court case.

We took to the streets to ask what would you like to see done to people who ill-treat or abandon animals? The majority seemed to agree and came up with a somewhat biblical solution, do unto others…..

I feel very strongly about animal cruelty.  I would definitely put the abuser in prison and they should never be allowed another animal again.
