Mothers day

The origins and dates of Mother’s Day vary from country to country.

In Ireland and England it was originally the day when people returned to their ‘Mother Church’, and was known as Mothering Sunday and is still celebrated on the last Sunday in Lent.

In Spain Mother’s Day used to be celebrated on December 8th, the feast of the Immaculate Conception, but today, as in many countries, commerce has taken over where religion left off and nowadays Mother‘s Day is a fiesta of spending and splurging.

So does the day really mean anything to mothers and their families any more?

I think things go really over the top these days, including aunts, grannies, etc into the celebrations.  It is nice to say thank you to your mother once a year but we should not keep on copying the Americans.
