As you will read elsewhere in this edition the growing use of drugs among young people may not be confined to Tenerife, but wherever you live there certainly seems to be greater availability of illegal substances. There also seems to be an increased belief among young people that drugs are more cool than dangerous. So, what needs to be done to curb growing drug use among young people in Tenerife?

I believe that more education about the risks of drug use is necessary. However, if people want to do drugs, they will do them. If necessary, people should not only be taught about the risks, but how to use drugs safely too. The police here seem to operate with a double morality – they stop small sellers, however I believe the big sellers are members of the police themselves.
