Doing it for themselves

While the dust may be settling post-general election in Spain, certainly the appointment of so many (very able) women to Zapatero’s cabinet continues to be a topic of conversation, and some controversy among certain members of the population.

One of those appointees to raise most eyebrows was probably Carme Chacón, the first woman to hold the position of defence minister in Spain’s democratic history, who is also now approaching her eighth month of pregnancy. The minister has already been in Afghanistan within a week of her appointment to spend time with the troops and most recently in the Lebanon. But is Spanish society ready for a mother-to-be in a job traditionally seen as the exclusive prerogative of a man? We asked you what you thought.

Cristian, Icod de los Vinos

Generally I think, women should work.  However regarding this important position I‘m not sure if it was a good decision. I imagine that she has got other things on her mind and once the baby is born will be more concerned about getting home all the time to mind her child.
