Brazilian prostitution ring smashed in Las Palmas

42 people have been detained in Gran Canaria following the discovery of a massive prostitution network operating out of night-clubs in Las Palmas and Telde. The authorities say the ring came to their attention after information was received from Brazil’s Interior Ministry over a year ago that dozens of women were being ‘exported’ to the Canaries for the sex industry.

26.01.2006 – It appears that the women were forced into prostitution to pay off the 4000 euros charged by the network to arrange their entry into Spain. Early reports say that the Brazilians and women from other countries in South America were kept under tight control in Las Palmas, including surveillance by webcams, which identified those who were ‘not working hard enough’ on the streets or in the clubs.
